108 Mala Beads

A Mala is a strand of 108 beads, and while they've been around for thousands of years, their purpose is still so relevant today.

Originally, Mala beads were used as a tool for meditation, helping people stay focused and connected on their spiritual path. They trace their roots back to India and are closely tied to Buddhism and Hinduism.

But here's the thing: you don’t need to be religious or have a specific spiritual practice to embrace a Mala. These beads can be a powerful tool for anyone looking to create positive change in their life.

Whether you're setting intentions, meditating, or wearing it for its beauty and energy, your Mala can be a reminder of the qualities you want to bring into your life and the person you’re working toward becoming.

The Power of 108

The number 108 has deep spiritual significance across many traditions. In numerology, 1 stands for truth, 0 represents completeness, and 8 symbolizes infinity. There are 108 sacred names for Indian goddesses, and the sun’s diameter is said to be 108 times that of the Earth.

It’s also tied to human emotions—108 in total, divided into past, present, and future—and 108 earthly desires. The Sanskrit alphabet has 54 letters, each with a masculine and feminine version, adding up to 108.

Most meaningfully, 108 energy channels converge at the heart, forming the heart chakra, the center of our soul and power. It’s a number that truly resonates with the essence of who we are.

Meditate with your Mala

Use your Mala beads to support you in your mindful and mediative practices. Let them become familiar with your hands and your heart.

  • Find a quiet space and sit in a comfortable position.

  • Choose a mantra or an affirmation.

  • Take 3 slow, full, deep breaths in and out.

  • Hold your Mala in one hand, draped between your index and middle finger.

  • Beginning with the first small bead, after the large grub bead, use your thumb to pass each bead through your fingers.

  • As you touch each bead with your fingers, recite your mantra or your affirmation.

  • Once you have travelled around your Mala, and touched all 108 beads, you will return to the guru bead. Give gratitude to your teachers and the most important people in your life.

  • Wear your Mala as a reminder to live mindfully.
